Thank you Tillamook for sponsoring this post.

If you know me, you know that one of my favorite things ever is CHEESE! I would actually choose cheese over sweets any day (shocking, coming from a dessert blogger, huh?). Today I’m partnering with one of my all-time favorite brands, Tillamook, and we are bringing you Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes!

These Sloppy Joes are here just in time for chilly fall weather … and weekend football-watching … and comfort food season! A warm, hearty meal made even better by melty, delicious and flavorful Tillamook Extra Sharp White Cheddar Slices.

Made with only three simple ingredients and then naturally aged for 15 months to achieve tangy perfection, Tillamook’s creamy yet robust Extra Sharp White Cheddar Slices are the perfect addition to my Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes. The Extra White Sharp White Cheddar is at Costco, available now through November!

How to Make Sloppy Joes

  • I start this recipe by sauteing chopped onions until they are golden brown. Because my goal is for this to taste like a cheeseburger, I like to get color and flavor on the onions to give an underlying caramelized onion flavor to the meat.
  • Add ground beef, garlic, salt, and pepper. Break up the meat and cook until it is brown and crumbled.
  • Add worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, tomato paste, brown sugar, and beef broth. This combination of ingredients give us lots of flavor – sweet, tangy and savory. Simmer this mixture for 10 minutes or so, until the sauce has thickened.
  • Place Tillamook Extra Sharp White Cheddar Slices right on top of the meat in the skillet. Place a lid on the skillet and wait a few minutes for the cheese to melt down into the meat. Swoon.
  • Scoop that cheesy meat onto buns and top with more cheese (of course!) and any of your favorite burger toppings.
  • Cheeseburgers are one of my favorite indulgences, and I love the ease of making this Sloppy Joe version. In less than 30 minutes, you will be diving into these delicious Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes.

You can get creative with how you top these burgers. My kids like them simple – meat, cheese and ketchup. I like mine just how I like my cheeseburger – lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, and thousand island dressing. It probably goes without saying (hence the word “sloppy”), but the more toppings you add, the more messy these get. I choose to eat mine with a knife and fork, and sometimes I even assemble them open face. Tip: This cheesy meat is also delicious on top of a baked potato. Cheeseburger stuffed potatoes? Yes, please!

    Ingredients

    Instructions

    • Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan or high-sided skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions have softened and browned (about 7-10 minutes).

    • Push the onions to one side of the saucepan, then add the meat to other side. Sprinkle the meat with salt, pepper and garlic. Cook, until the meat is browned and cooked through, breaking it up a wooden spoon as it’s cooking. Stir the meat and onions together. If there is an excessive amount of grease (more than a tablespoon), drain it off.

    • Add ketchup, worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, tomato paste and beef broth, stir to combine. Scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon to remove any browned bits. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes. The sauce should thicken and cook down. Taste and add more salt and pepper, if desired.

    • Turn off the heat. Place 3-4 slices of cheese on top of the meat and place a lid over the pan. Allow the residual heat to melt the cheese, this happens within a couple minutes. Scoop the cheesy meat onto buns and top with additional cheese (if desired), and your favorite burger toppings.
