Hume Hwy: Body found on highway near Campbelltown

A man whose body was found on a highway in Sydney’s south west has been identified as a young father of three children.

David Howard, 30, was found on the Hume Highway near Campbelltown two days after the incident that took his life.

Friends and family have paid tribute to him, with many saying he was taken “way too early”.

“Shattered hearing the news, still can’t believe it,” one loved one said.

His remains were located on the highway at around 1pm, with police saying he may have been the victim of a hit and run earlier on the week.

It’s understood a truck driver reported striking something “heavy” on Monday, but continued driving because they believed it to be an animal.

The individual later called police to report the incident.

Mr Howard’s social media is flooded with photos of his young children, with his final post wishing his son a Happy Birthday.

“I love you so much and I'm proud of the young boy you have become. See you after work son,” the post read.

He leaves behind three children, an eight-year-old son, four-year-old daughter and another son.

He said his children were his “drive to be better than the man I was yesturday (sic)”.

In the intervening time, it is feared thousands of cars might have driven over the remains.

NSW Police said the remains were going to be forensically examined.

“While inquiries are in their infancy, it’s believed a person – who has not been identified – was hit by a vehicle in the area earlier this week,” they said.

A report is being prepared for a coroner.

On Wednesday morning, a pedestrian was killed in Melbourne’s western suburbs after he was struck by a truck.

A 58-year-old truck driver is assisting police with their inquiries.

Police said the individual was struck at the intersection of Moreland and Parker Sts, Footscray.
