Western Australia: Plane crash victim identified as Michael Hebbard

A man killed in a horror light plane crash in remote country near the West Australian and South Australian border has been identified as a Perth father of two.

Michael Hebbard was killed after his amateur-built Jabiru recreational plane went down at about 9.40am last Friday near Caiguna, a small roadhouse community on the Nullarbor Plane.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash; however, it was too late to save Mr Hebbard, who was aged in his 40s.

He was the sole occupant of the aircraft.

Devastated family and friends have shared tributes to the late father, who leaves behind wife Kristen as well as two young children, Finn and Stella, who are “devastated” by the loss.

“I loved that guy and will miss him so much. I can’t imagine how heart broken his wife and children are,” his neighbour wrote on Facebook.

“The world is less one amazing person, RIP Mike you legend.”

“I‘m still in shock over the extremely sad news, my heart goes out to the family, I can’t imagine how they’re feeling right now, Mike was a lovely guy who was always ready to help a neighbour in need,” another said.

“There are no words for such a loss.”

Two separate GoFundMe campaigns have been set up in his honour in order to help financially support his young family.

“Mike was one of the most genuine, down to earth guys you were ever likely to meet and I wanted to do something to try and give something back to his partner Kristen and two young kids Finn and Stella at this terribly difficult time for them,” friend Linton Allen said.

That fundraiser has raised more than $7500 of its $10,000 goal.

A second fundraiser has seen more than $800 raised of its $20,000 goal.
